“And not to forget "Mermaids" in Courtney Place - the famous fish tank full of girls - I am not sure when the place closed. It was well known and popular in Wellington. Unfortunately I never had a look while living in Wellington. I got this off the net. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxF7tnfY_3o”

“I believe it was named by a gentleman that walked 150 years ago and being Greman he was in mtrics, I lloked it up and here is the answer.around 55 miles Ninety Mile Beach is actually around 55 miles (88 kilometres) long. The story goes that the early European settlers named it because they knew their horses could travel up to 30 miles in a day. So if the trip along the beach took them three days, it must be 90 miles long, right?”

“Oops, What's 10 Miles amongst Friends. I still cant remeber the reason it's called 90 Mile Beach, and it's 7am so I'm too tired to google, I do remember you telling me the story but. Totally agree, the Coromandels were amazing! I still can’t get over the size of those mussels you cooked for us in Thames—they were incredible. And yeah, the drive past Hot Water Beach was so cool! Such a shame we didn’t get a chance to stop and check it out properly. I was definitely driving a little slower back then because the car was smaller—my confidence really only kicked in when we had the 4WD. Next time, we’ll have to plan a proper stop!”

“Mrs. Langtrees' connection to New Zealand has always been something special, and Aaron cherishes the incredible memories made while exploring its natural beauty together. One standout moment was when they drove from her sister’s property to visit the stunning 80 Mile Beach. They didn’t drive along the beach itself but instead admired the breathtaking views and the serene, endless stretch of coastline. It was one of those moments where the sheer beauty of nature truly leaves you in awe. Of course, the journey there was just as memorable! Aaron learned quickly that driving on New Zealand’s windy roads requires a little patience—especially when Mrs. Langtrees made sure to remind him to slow down and enjoy the ride. Her exact words? 'You’re not a rally driver, Aaron!' And, as always, she was right. The charm of New Zealand lies as much in the journey as the destination. Here’s to those adventures and hoping for more moments of exploration and laughter on NZ’s picturesque roads and coastlines!”

“I love Wellington. I used to live in Te Aro before they built the airport bypass. Reading through the blog I wondered if ‘The K’ on upper Willis Street was still going? Many moons ago I went there for an interview and nearly started work there but got cold feet in the last minute - far too close to home as I literally used to live just down the road in a house that had to give way for the bypass. Google tells me that ‘The K’ is no more. They had to close the doors in 2016. Their lease was running out and did not get renewed. Considering the location and the development of the area the then owner decided to make it more profitable. Shame really as it was a unique place with a lot of class and flair……. and in a great location.”
